Lucky Number 13

James and I snuck away for a quick getaway in the Smoky Mountains for our 13th anniversary. We enjoyed a couple nights in our favorite little bed and breakfast in Cosby, TN and a lot of hiking. May is such a crazy month that it is always difficult to squeeze anything in, but somehow we managed to pull it off and had a great time.

Day 1: Ramsey Cascades trail (8 miles roundtrip). This was our second time to do this hike and it's one of my very favorites. I think the threat of rain kept the crowds away because we had it to ourselves! And not a drop of rain!

Day 2: Mount Cammerer Trail (11 miles roundtrip). This hike was tough. Especially following the 8 miles of the day before. We took it slow and steady up the mountain (2000+ ft in elevation gain) and eventually made it to the top. But they don't call them the Smoky Mountains for no reason. The clouds had rolled in and the mountains were indeed smoky. We were in the clouds and couldn't see a thing. Luckily we had done this hike back in 2012 on a clear October day and have seen the amazing views from the top first-hand.

It had stormed the night before with a lot of hard rain, so the stream on Sunday morning was up too high to get across with ease...but we made it and managed to keep our feet dry.

Clouds rolling in...

We made it!

A real Smokey Mountain view

It's been 13 years full of adventures together! Looking forward to many more!

End-of-the-year Crazy (Goodness)

May is always such a whirlwind of a month, and this year was no different! We crammed lots of great stuff in! And I still can't believe that Kindergarten and 2nd Grade are in the books! It's been a great year!

Case did an amazing job at his piano recital. We were super proud of him!

Emery's class led chapel one day and did such a great job! After chapel she was given her medal for making it into the 100 book club. She read precisely 100 books (and not one over). Ha!

We will miss Miss Mallory! What' a great teacher!
Case received a couple of awards this year. We were most proud of his AR award. Our bookworm finished out the second semester with 108 AR points.  The principal said that was the highest number of points she's ever seen in the second grade. His love of reading really came out these last few months. Since Christmas he's polished off the entire Percy Jackson series and is almost half-way through the Wings of Fire series. He gets his love for reading from his Dad, for sure. I didn't enjoy reading until adulthood and it's not something we force him to do. He just loves it.

It's been a great year in Mrs. Woods class!

The kids and I hit up the Brooks Museum to see their Tape Art display before it came down. Super cool!

Somewhere in there, I had a birthday and James treated me to a nice dinner out to celebrate 35 years of life!

Field Day! I was in Murfreesboro for the State Track Meet, so I missed it, but had some friends snap some pics for me. The kids had a great time, ending the year with a bang!

Adios second grade!

Peace out kindergarten!

Wrapping up soccer

It was a really great first year of competitive soccer. These boys improved so much since last fall. It's pretty amazing. Thanks to Coach Rick for his abundance of patience!

Mother's Day 2017

Mother's Day 2017 was a very good day. Blessed to be the mom of these two great kiddos.

James called this the Mommy shrine. :) All done 100% by Emmy Lou as a surprise!
