We've had a great start to "fall" although it certainly doesn't feel like fall outside. I'm over the 90 degree heat. Over. It. But we've been enjoying much time outdoors anyway...just sweating away.
Our church had a big fall kickoff party on Wednesday night for the youth group and Emery thought she was big stuff getting to hang out with the teenagers. She even got in on the giant slip-n-slide fun!
Both kids are playing soccer. Case is in a competitive league, so it takes up four of our week nights but no soccer on weekends (hallelujah!). And Emery is playing on Harding's co-ed kindergarten team and it only takes up one week night for practice (our only free one) and then her games are on Saturday mornings. So, we basically have six days a week of soccer in some form or fashion! But both of them are loving it so I guess this is just the new "normal" around here. I'm finally being forced to learn all the rules and positions so I know what's going on.
Last week we had our official Parent-Teacher conference with the kids' teachers and both got good reports. Case's teacher did note that sometimes his desk can get a bit messy and that his handwriting could use some improvement. I promptly informed her that he did not get either of those qualities from me. That's all from Dad. Ha! Outside on the wall I spotted some of his work. He noted "my sister" under "Things that bug me." So funny, I just had to document it!
Shelby Farms had their grand re-opening of the new Heart of the Park project and it is ahhh-mazing! We've enjoyed a couple of trips over on our bikes and had some new splash pad fun (because it's still HOT). We can't wait to try out the new restaurant soon (would make a great date night)! So grateful to have such a great place to go to in the city AND a bonus is that it's a short bike ride from our house!
The first family bike ride we hauled our bikes on the back of the Pilot and Emery rode her own bike. About half way, she crashed and skinned her knee up and was over it. So James pushed her the rest of the way. So I got on Amazon and ordered this nifty ride-along bike for her. Two days later (I love Amazon Prime) it arrived and we got it all set up! Our next family bike ride, we rode from our house and I pulled Emery behind my bike and she loved it! We switched her over to James' bike for the trip home from Shelby Farms so he could see what it was like. Now we can all ride from the house (no more loading up the bikes) and no one complains about being tired! It's ramped up the fun level by 100%! Best. Investment. Ever.
My parents came into town for the weekend and joined the kids at school for some special Grandparents Day festivities. The kids were thrilled to have them here and that night was lower school night at the football game, so they also got to see Emery cheer and perform her dance routine at halftime. She did great!
