Emery is FIVE!

Emery is five. That's kind of a big deal so we tried to make it special. We started off the Saturday before her birthday with a trip to the jeweler to get her ears pierced. Let the record show that her daddy wasn't super excited about this whole ear piercing thing. But Emery was so pumped and not scared one bit. And what a great experience it was. We went to DeAngelis Jewelers in Germantown. Family run business with several older women running the show and then Mr. DeAngelis himself was there to do the ear piercing. Those women had the best time with Emery. Gave her a crown to wear and everything. It was great.

Mr. DeAngelis got her marked up and we all agreed that the holes were going to be in the right place and then he told her how it would work...

Then it was go time and Mr. DeAngelis said, "Emery, are you ready?" and Emery said, "YES." The right ear was done. Just like that. And Emery said, "That hurt a little" but no tears from this brave girl. Just smiles! And then on to the left ear. Since she realized it was actually going to hurt a bit I thought she might hesitate. Mr DeAngelis said it again..."Emery, are your ready?" and Emery said, YES."

Done and done. Way to go Emery!

She was so happy!

Then Saturday afternoon Emery had her first ever friend birthday party. We kept it simple with just a few friends at our church playground and a bounce house. It had a loose My Little Pony theme to it. I think she had a good time!

After everyone was gone the four of us all decided to get in the bounce house since they weren't coming to pick it up for a bit. When I asked Emery what her favorite part of her party was she said, "When you and Daddy got in the bounce house with me and Bubby." Sweet girl. That was my favorite part too! Although it was clear that I'm getting too old for bounce houses.

And then on Monday it was her actual birthday so we gave her gifts from us before school.

And when she walked into school they even had a sign for her! I think she liked the extra attention!

Emery, Happy 5th Birthday, sweet girl! You make every day more exciting and keep us laughing most of the time with your funny faces, sounds and stories. You are definitely one of a kind and we love you so much! Hope your 5th birthday was a memorable one!
