First trip to the ER

A few weeks ago, James and I checked off a big parenting milestone. We survived our first trip to the ER with one of the kids. And I've gotta say that I'm surprised (and thankful) that it's taken seven years! Case got his finger caught in one of the big heavy metal doors at church on Wednesday night and it nearly tore the end of his finger off. Thankful that his fingernail was keeping it together. I knew we had fingernails for a reason...

We headed to the new Baptist Pediatric ER and I have to say that it was a great experience (as great as ER experiences can go, that is). We didn't have to wait to go back and everything just moved right along. Plus we were so close to home that James ran over and grabbed our phone chargers, iPad and Coke, of course to keep us all going!

The ortho doc on call (who was a very capable resident with the Campbell Clinic) took his fingernail off, put his finger back together and then put the fingernail back on to help protect his nail bed while it healed up a bit. The new nail will grow in and the old will fall off. Case was super brave!

Case goes back to Campbell Clinic on Thursday to hopefully get the all clear to resume normal activities, including basketball and recess.

Very sad upon arrival

Better after a little Motrin

They decided it best to sedate him (thank goodness) and so he had to get an IV.

Hoping the destruction of the iPad would work

Not so much…but this pic makes it seem worse than it was. This only lasted on second (or less)
Half a second later (literally), he smiled and said "Oh, that wasn't that bad." Ha! And for the record, he asked me to delete this photo but I just couldn't!

A little Harry Potter while we waited for the team to prep the room

Great job, buddy! You really were very brave! And funny once the sedative kicked in!
